All our sandals are made with vegetable tanned leather. Vegetable tanning is a slow process producing a leather with greater density, body and firmness. Vegetable tanned leathers present unique and natural characteristics while respecting the environment and aging beautifully.
Each piece of leather we use for our sandals tells its own story, it carries the individual scars, wrinkles and markings of the original hide, making it unique and personal. Unlike most fabrics, leather's characteristic trait is that it only gets better with time. It absorbs oils from our skin which renders its appearance richer and suppler over time. Over the years, vegetable tanned leather will acquire a soft patina adding to its signature charm and character.
Vegetable tanning is a process that uses tannins and other natural ingredients obtained from different parts of plants, including woods, barks, fruits, fruit pods and leaves to transform animal skins into actual leather.
All of our leather is dyed with a non toxic dyeing agent, using the vegetable process and is free of bleeding or rubbing off.Vegetable dying minimizes the harmful effects of chemical dyes on the surrounding environment. Any leather that has been vegetable tanned can be recycled.
All of our sandals are mainly made by hand, ensuring that only a limited amount of equipment is required. Our local Greek artisans have been perfecting their sandal making techniques through many generations. We've assembled a core line with a wide range of styles combining various leather colors, buckles, and sole types.
