Back home

September is the ‘rotating door’ of the season as we are both coming and going.

The light is gentler and the air more temperate, the colors all around start to resemble those of the genuine leather our sandals are made of and Greece, the country that hosts the artisans that handcraft the Mythologia designs, gets ready to receive the late visitors that come to enjoy the sweet aftertaste of summer.

But the door rotates and Mythologia’s steps lead back to the city, to reflect and sit on the drawing table to create the next collection of authentic Greek sandals. This season’s travel to Lemnos showed us a different side of Greece, the place we call home and one of the most beloved summer destinations on the planet.

Lemnos is off the beaten track, ruggedly beautiful and low key enchanting. It attracts people who appreciate a substantial experience of travel, absorbing more of what the destination has to offer than trying to recreate fancy urban happenings in a non urban location. Lemnos receives less visitors and caters to them with local tastes that have made history, with peace and quiet and with many photogenic places to decorate their instagram accounts. But most of all Lemnos is a lesson in respect; respect for its own identity -this island will never be Mykonos or Santorini, its special approach to providing hospitality and its ‘less is more’ way of doing things.

This experience we hold dear at Mythologia sandals. It is a confirmation that, by choosing sustainability, by creating ‘slow fashion’ and by respecting the natural materials and the handcraft, we are making sandals that are authentic, superior and respectful of people, environment and the place we call home.
